Located in the mountains of southern central Africa, it takes its name from the Zambezi River that crosses most of the country. The vast majority of people live on what they call the train line and it is the connection between their capital Lusaka, Copperbelt and Livingstone. It was able to get their independence from the British Empire by October 24, 1964.
It shares borders with: Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.
