Officially United Republic of Tanzania, it was founder in 1964 uniting the sovereign states of Tanganyika and Zanzibar. Famous for its natural attractions and its biodiversity, Tanzania is a perfect country for safaris.
Tanganyka owes its name to the lake on the west side of the country, this being the second largest lake on the African continent. They belonged to the German Empire until the Second World War where they were handed over to the British Empire by the Versailles Treaty until they achieved their independence on December 9, 1961
Zanzibar was one of the main ports for maritime, spice and slave trade and was part of several empires since it was part of the Portuguese empire, it was the capital of the Sultanate of Oman and finally belonged to the British empire until it achieved its independence on 10 December 1963.
Although its capital is Dodoma, almost all government offices remain in Dar es Salaam. It shares borders with: Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Uganda and Zambia.
