When it gained its independence from the British Empire, on August 15, 1947, it was divided into 2 countries: India (inhabited mainly by the Hindu) and Pakistan (inhabited mainly by the Muslims)
Thanks to the Himalayas in the north, India is a different country to the vast majority of Asia, it shares a border with 6 countries: Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Myanmar, Nepal and Pakistan.
