Officially the Federative Republic of Brazil, it occupies half of South America and is the fifth largest country in the world. It is a country rich in biodiversity as it has most of the Amazon rainforest, home to the largest river in the world.
It obtained its independence from Portugal on September 7, 1822, unlike the Spanish colonies in South America, it was not divided into small countries.
Brazil is the country in South America with the most borders as it shares with: Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Guyana, French Guyana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela.
